YWCA Utah, Salt Lake CityAugust 2, 2018"Welcome to the YWCA, and thank you for gathering here today with family and friends to celebrate the life of Mary Jane Jarman Weyher, who brought joy and light and love to so many people throughout her life – and who was loved deeply in return.I didn’t know Mary Jane as long as many of you – just 20 years or so. She felt a special affinity for the YWCA because of her mother Helen’s long and close friendship with us, and the many good memories this created. Mary Jane followed in her mother’s footsteps, serving on the YWCA Board and becoming one of our strongest champions. She cheered us on year after year with warmth and enthusiasm, and gladdened our hearts whenever we were in her company.One of the ways we kept in touch after her Board tenure ended was to have lunch occasionally – she always talked about her family: about her latest travels with Bill, her children Sam, Zach, Anna, and Willy, and her beloved grandchildren. How she loved all of you! And how proud she was of each of you. I remember how thrilled she was to be able to travel to Africa and see firsthand where Anna did her field research.Mary Jane believed in the YWCA’s work here and around the world, and she remained by our side through changes, challenges, and chances to live our mission better and differently. Her presence and love in our life were unfailing, as I know they were in yours, and they are gifts from her we will remember always. Thank you, Mary Jane, and Godspeed. "Love you to the Moon…and back"Mary Jane Jarman Weyher passed away peacefully following a 25-year battle with breast cancer. She fought with grace, hope and humor.Mary Jane was magical. She left an indelible impression on just about everyone she met. She lit up with such genuine excitement to see you that it was impossible not to feel loved and like you had a fan for life. Mary Jane disarmed you with her simple joy and love for life. She reminded us to laugh often and not take life too seriously, even when that seemed impossible.Mary Jane was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Helen Brown and Jack Jarman. She attended Uintah, Clayton, and East High School.As a young woman, Mary Jane travelled to Australia, Italy and Bora Bora, cementing a lifelong spirit for travel and adventure. Soon thereafter, she met the love of her life and her soul mate, Bill Weyher. They eloped to Reno, Nevada and spent the next 46 years together. They raised four children together in Salt Lake City and retired in Springdale, Utah.Mary Jane earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Utah, focusing on early childhood development. Mary Jane's greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren. Children gravitated to Mary Jane and she seemed to speak their language. She was even a Mom to those closest to her kids when they needed one.Following in her mother's footsteps, Mary Jane was a tireless advocate for nonprofit organizations, especially the YWCA. Mary Jane was also member of the Springdale Lions Club, PEO, Zion National Park Vipers, and the YWCA World Service Council.Mary Jane was a giver, a traveler, a gardener, an art lover, a reader, a hippie and singer of a thousand children's and Christmas songs. Mary Jane saw the world through the eyes of a child and it was easy to picture her singing with the birds and animals as she walked along the Virgin River or planting in her garden. She was magnificent.Mary Jane is preceded in death by her parents, John Walter and Helen Brown Jarman, and numerous furry buddies. Mary Jane is survived by her husband, Bill, and her children, Sam (Elizabeth), Zach (Josie), Anna and Willy; grandchildren Jack, Henry, Ben and Chance; brothers John (Betty), Bob (Martine), Wally (Karen); nieces, nephews, many friends and her dog Lars.Mary, MJ, Mom, Nene, Mare, Mrs. Weyher, Mary Jane, you are over the rainbow now…we will miss you.In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Mary Jane's name to YWCA Utah, 322 E. 300 S., SLC, UT 84111 or donate online.
