Family Justice Center Announces Revitalization

On June 25th, YWCA Utah announced the revitalization of the Salt Lake Area Family Justice Center. This center is a vital resource for survivors of family violence. The pandemic forced us to adapt swiftly, sending all our co-located community partners remote. While YWCA Utah kept the Family Justice Center's doors open and accessible, the loss of in-person partners meant a core and vital piece of the Family Justice Center’s mission was missing.

Now, as we emerge from the shadows of COVID-19, we are thrilled to reunite with our invaluable community partners and enhance our services, creating a safe, welcoming space for survivors.

The return of critical partners like the Department of Workforce Services, Holy Cross Ministries, Salt Lake City Police Department, Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office, Utah Office for Victims of Crime, Salt Lake Prosecutors Office, Utah Crime Victims Legal Clinic, Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake, The Rape Recovery Center, and the Asian Association of Utah signifies a powerful collaboration that strengthens our collective ability to comprehensively serve our community.

YWCA Utah CEO Liz Owens spoke on the importance of these partnerships, “Under one roof, we are creating a sanctuary where survivors can find safety, support, and the resources they need to rebuild their lives. The Family Justice Center offers a comprehensive array of trauma-informed services designed to foster healing and empowerment.”.

In addition to partners, The Salt Lake Area Family Justice Center offers economic empowerment opportunities including financial literacy and direct support. We also have a boutique where families can stop by and pick up essentials like clothes and toiletries for free during business hours. Our beautiful intake and meeting rooms provide private spaces for participants to meet with partners, with a window to the children’s playroom, which is a place where children can play and be safe while their caregivers receive the assistance they need. The telehealth room offers a private space for participants to access remote services, including therapy sessions and more.

"The Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office and Salt Lake City Prosecutor's Office are proud of the partners coming together to help empower members of our community through the Family Justice Center. The center represents a circle of care for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. What is offered at the center will serve as a bridge to connect meaningful partners' critical services with people that need them." Sim Gill, Salt Lake County District Attorney & Salt Lake City Prosecutor states.

This marks more than the revitalization of a center; it symbolizes our collective resilience and unwavering dedication to serving those affected by violence in our community. Together, we reaffirm our commitment to providing not just services, but a supportive environment where survivors can rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
